El Cartel

Two good friends join the underground world of Drug trafficking to make quick money and have a better quality of living. The illegal drugs trafficking world seems to be attractive to all these middle-class people who just want to grow up in a safe way without legal problems. The ignorance of the challenges and dangers that coincide with the drug world orchestrates the plot that continues throughout the series. Martín, also known as "Fresita", lands a job working in a drug lab sponsored by the big boss Oscar Cadena . Martín learns the business  quickly and starts to send illegal drugs to the United States, while his boss makes an alliance with the Villegas Brothers, from the West Cartel, to take down the biggest drug dealer ever: Pablo Escabar

As the conflict between Martin, Oscar, and Pablo escalate, the audience is entangled in a love triangle between Martin and Sofia. After Martin becomes rich, he begins to fall for her and ultimately wins her heart by lying to her about the origin of his wealth. However, when she discovers the truth of the correlation between his riches and the drug trade, Martin is forced to choose between Sofia and the business. This conflict creates the first despecho, or spite, within the novella. Sofia feels the weight of betrayal while Martin is forced to evaluate the extent of his love for Sofia, leaving the audience to await his decision as the season progresses. As a result, it can be argued that this love triangle is the driving force of the novella, second to the complexity of the drug trade and the unanticipated dangers that come as a result. This balance of differing conflicts is very common within the novella genre, classifying El Cartel as a typical novella as opposed some other nontraditional novellas that have become more common recently.
