La Piloto: Coming to an End


As my time watching “La Piloto” draws to an end, I realize that in my time viewing this telenovela I have truly learned a lot about not only the cultural values of telenovelas but also the personal value they have to myself. This course has allowed me to open myself up to new areas of the film industry and analyze and discuss the many different aspects that are considered when creating these action-packed stories. “La Piloto” has shown the resilience of Yolanda Cadena as she has faced a multitude of obstacles in her path to achieve her dreams of becoming a pilot, as well as a goal that has surfaced along the way which is to find love. While maintaining supportive for a female protagonist in a seemingly all male world, the audience and myself are captivated by the twists and turns in this jaw dropping telenovela. I was never a big watcher of telenovelas and had very little knowledge surrounding their history, or the magnitude at which they were once produced but after watching this telenovela, I have found a new appreciation for all the thought, time, and effort that went into the production of this show. “La PIloto” was produced in Durango, Mexico most likely for the beautiful outside scenery which is needed to show the vast and powerful business of the Lucio Brothers however Mexico contains some of the highest production costs for telenovelas. This show utilizes a very substantial amount of scenic shots whether it be in a jungle, in the city, or on the vast ranch/airplane hangar of the Lucios that all contribute to the magic of this story and help viewers become engulfed in this “narconovela”. “La Piloto” was created by writer, Jörg Hiller, who has been creating telenovelas since the 2000’s and has had much success in his stories. This telenovela was produced by Lemon Films Studios for Univision and Televisa and has been on primetime air since 2017. Many viewers await the second season and all the action that has yet to come. I personally look forward to watching the next season of this telenovela along with many others. After learning about the storylines, production, and overall the support for this industry I am very excited to continue watching telenovelas and watching with a closer eye.

La Niña protagonist ingredients to a great love story

Typically in telenovelas the protagonists are made to be the most physically attractive ones as well as other factors in order to have the perfect love story.  Belky is a character that I find to actually be pretty and has the key of keeping that beauty when she's sad/ crying which is needed due to the fact that she is upset a lot.   The male protagonist usually has the perfect smile that melt the hearts of all the viewers; however, in  La Niña I find Manuel to have a face and smile that reminds me of the rat from Flushed Away. The actor that plays Manuel isn't ugly, but I  wouldn't categorize him under the typical heart throb role that the male protagonist tend to be. It's not his looks that make the viewer fall in love with him, rather it's all the little things he says and does for Belky. Portrayals of Women in Telenovelas

Throughout the history of telenovelas, there have been various common themes that tend to carry throughout many hit telenovelas. One similar theme that I find interesting is the way women are portrayed. In many Cinderella modeled telenovelas, the women protagonists are portrayed as being pure and naive girls that go through a transformation after meeting their "prince". This type of Cinderella story unveils an array of stereotypes about not only women but men too. In many Cinderella telenovelas, the protagonist is a beautiful, blonde, innocent woman who finds a man who is above her in social status. This portrays women as being "damsels in distress" who need a man to pull them out of their current struggling lifestyle. Additionally this leads to men in these types of telenovelas as being very superficial and mainly being useful for their looks and their money.
